Why I Do WHat I Do - (part two)

If you read my blog, you know I am sharing my journey of how I ended up where I am today in regards to my "job" and being a mom.

Here is part two of the story:

My path took me on a different route.  I really enjoyed psychology courses in college, especially those taught by Karyn McKenzie.  I began taking them as electives.  After graduation,  I began working as a Youth Minister and decided to pursue a Masters degree in Counseling.  This didn't happen overnight, but over a period of about a year I really felt more and more led in this direction!

I enrolled in Asbury Theological Seminary in the fall of 1999.  I graduated in December 2001.  I did an internship on a college campus in their counseling office and then in a middle school.  I also began subbing in that school and took a full-time job teaching 7th grade.  The next year, I taught special education classes.  I began pursuing what I would have to do to obtain a license as a school counselor.  Then my husband and I found out we were expecting......and everything changed.

All through life I knew that I would want to stay home with my children once I became a mother.  My mom did that with us.  Greg and I discussed this when we were dating.  He agreed that he wanted that as well.  When Blake was born in July 2003, "my" plans were put on hold.  At the time, I had no idea when or if God would see fit to "restart" the dreams/plans I had.

In 2005, I had another son, Noah.  Blake started preschool in the fall of 2007 and I got involved with the Education Committee at our school.  Mrs. Noble, Blake's teacher, put me on there.  Originally, I signed on to learn more about the school, policies, curriculum, etc.  It became apparent that there was a need for a school counselor.  (I had been praying for an opportunity like this for some time!)  They asked me to chair a committee the next school year that would design a counseling program based on the needs of our school.  I agreed to do this, knowing I was expecting our third son in May of 2008.

Stay tuned for part three.........
