Why I Do What I Do - (part three)

Here is the third post in this series:

I had our third son, Andy, in May 2008.  I worked on this  Counseling Committee and volunteered at school each week while Blake was in kindergarten.

At the end of May 2009, I sent an email to the headmaster.  I had been praying a lot about starting the counseling program on a volunteer basis.  We would have a Senior class that year and I could basically work with them on college applications, FAFSA forms, and more.  He emailed me back and said he had already thought of approaching me for this and had even talked to the Board about it.  (God's timing!!)

In the fall of 2009, I set up the counseling office.  I met with other counselors at area schools.  I went to some trainings and jumped in head first.  I had no idea what all I would be doing!  I ended up planning and hosting the Prom, Graduation and Project Graduation.  We had a National Merit Finalist in our Senior class which was such an honor.  I helped another student apply and get accepted as a Governor's Scholar.  I really enjoyed working with the students I had.  I took Andy with me some of the time and everyone was so great with him being around!

The next school year brought more work and more challenges.  I started reaching out into the middle school and elementary classes more.  I did Career sessions, had college representatives visit, hosted speakers and more.  I gave the PSAT and PLAN tests.  I met with parents, teachers and students.  I went to trainings to learn more about counseling in schools.  I felt like I was settling into a fairly easy routine.  Then.....I found out I was expecting again!

After the birth of my fourth son in September of 2011, I am still working very part-time as a counselor at the school.  I know some day, I will be there more and at home less.  I am constantly amazed at how God chooses to orchestrate my life.  Things do not always go according to my plans!

As I grow older, it is easier to not come unglued when my plans go haywire because I have seen over and over again that HIS plans for me are ALWAYS better!

stay tuned for part four.......
